Work Experience with Laura

Once again Argon opened its doors for another student looking for some work experience. This week we had the pleasure of hosting Laura.

Why have you chosen to do Work Experience at Argon Design?

I chose to do my work experience at Argon Design as I want to do Graphic Design when I leave school and they have a great program to help me experience the job.

List 3 brands that inspire you and explain why:

Apple
Nike
Beats

These brands inspire me as their logos are so simple but so effected and wellknown. By having good logos and brand names, it helps to sell the product to make them well known.

How would you define the term ‘Branding’?

I would define branding as being when a name or symbol/logo is being created for a company or product.

Where can you see yourself doing in 10 years time?

In ten years I can see myself living in Adelaide, have completed a graphic design course at Tafe SA and be working as a graphic designer.

What do you enjoy most about design class at school?

I enjoy being set different projects so I am able to design many different things such as posters, DVD covers, CD covers and more. When I design the possibilities are endless and I like creating something new and different.

I like how when we are set to do tutorials our teacher makes us do a free choice after that but it has to have the tutorial incorporated into it. I also like it when our teacher sets tasks where he plays a song and then we have to make a poster releasing the song. This makes us think and interpret the song in many different ways.

What do you enjoy least about design class at school?

I least enjoy only having three double 40-minute lessons a week, as it is my favourite subject.

What do you like about living in Mount Gambier?

I like living in Mount Gambier as it only takes about 15 minutes to get across town and it is just overall a great country town. I love the little communities of people that I am involved in at school and dancing and it is great to have the valley lake to ski at in summer time.

What Laura thought about her time with Argon

What has been your favourite part of the week?

My favourite part of the week was putting products onto a website and designing the logo. I also enjoyed having the opportunity to sit in on a meeting to be able to see the process involved to producing and designing things.

What have you found most challenging?

I have found sketching one of the most challenging things for me this week as sometimes I know what I want to design but I just don’t know how to put it onto paper and I am also not the best drawer.

What have you learnt about Graphic Design during your week at Argon Design?

I have learnt that with in the graphic design industry there are many different jobs form designing websites to going out and talking to clients.

Which skills do you think you need to develop moving forward?

I think that I need to do more creative pieces and pieces where you have to follow a brief to improve my skill of creating ideas and also my skills in typography.

After a week in a Graphic Design office, can you see yourself as a designer as a future career?

Yes as I love being able to be creative and create pieces of work such as logos and posters. By being given a task to work on throughout the week like a graphic designer would have been given and to be able to see all of the other aspects of the business I can see that I would love to do this as a future job.
